Putin Thanks : Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the efforts of global leaders in his first public comment on Ukraine's ceasefire proposal. He said that it is the result of the efforts of all global leaders that Ukraine has agreed to the ceasefire proposal. He thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and other leaders for their efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
In a press conference with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko yesterday evening, Putin said, "We agree with the proposals to end hostility, but this end should be for long-term peace, this peace should be forever. And the root causes of the crisis should be eliminated." Speaking on Ukraine regarding the ceasefire, Putin referred to US President Trump's efforts and said, "Ukraine may have expressed its desire for a ceasefire under US pressure in Saudi Arabia." He said the Ukrainian side has probably taken this decision under US pressure, which may have been prompted by the deteriorating situation on the battlefield. Putin made it clear that Russia supports peace talks, but on the condition that it will provide a long-term solution and eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
Putin praised the peace efforts of US President Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders. Putin said, "Leaders of many countries, such as the Prime Ministers of India and China, the Presidents of Brazil and South Africa, are paying attention to this issue and giving it a lot of their time. We are grateful to them for this." US President Trump also welcomed the ceasefire agreement from Ukraine and termed it "very important". Trump said that soldiers of both Russia and Ukraine are being killed in this "terrible war" and it is important for both countries to reach a ceasefire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already supported efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine dispute. He made it clear that India is not neutral but stands in favour of peace. Modi said, "India's position is that the dispute should be resolved through dialogue. This is not the era of war." Modi also praised Trump's efforts and said that India is in touch with the leaders of both countries and the conflict should be resolved peacefully. Ukraine on March 11 expressed its willingness to accept the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the US, which can be extended with the consent of both countries. Now it remains to be seen how Russia will respond to this proposal and what conditions will be laid for the ceasefire. However, Putin's response from Russia is being seen as a positive sign towards peace efforts.
