Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appeared on American podcaster Lex Fridman's show where he spoke on important topics including Pakistan, US President Donald Trump and his personal journey in politics. Following are the highlights of their conversation.

India-Pakistan Relations

Prime Minister Modi spoke openly about India's peace initiatives with Pakistan, saying every effort has been met with hostility and betrayal. He recalled how in 2014 he invited then Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony, aimed at starting a new chapter in bilateral relations. In response to which we saw cowardly attacks like Uri and Pulwama. They responded to every effort with terrorism and violence.

He stressed that the common people of Pakistan also want peace, as they are suffering from terrorism, instability and economic turmoil. Modi expressed hope that the leadership of Pakistan will act wisely and work towards improving relations with India. But the Pakistani establishment does not want this and the negative impact is being felt by the people of Pakistan.

PM Modi on Donald Trump

PM Modi recalled the deadly attack on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump last year and praised his determination and perseverance. He compared it to Trump's firm leadership in 2019, when the two leaders walked hand-in-hand at a stadium event. Modi praised Trump's unwavering dedication to the US even after facing the deadly attack. He said Donald Trump has an America First policy. It shows that he is determined towards America and the citizens of America.

2002 Godhra incident

Discussing his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi pointed out that he had no administrative experience before assuming office on October 7, 2001. He became an elected representative on February 24, 2002 and just days later, the Godhra incident (February 27, 2002) sparked widespread violence in the state.  Modi pointed out that riots are nothing new in Gujarat, citing more than 250 riots before 2002, including the six-month-long one in 1969. Describing the 2002 riots as tragic, he emphasised that his administration ensured lasting peace in Gujarat thereafter. PM Narendra Modi also addressed the political and media scrutiny he faced after 2002, saying that despite years of accusations, justice finally prevailed and the courts acquitted him of all charges.
