What is NATO ?
NATO is a powerful military organization in this era. There are a total of 32 countries in this organization. NATO was established on 4 April 1949. It was established by America, Canada and 10 countries of Europe together. At the time of establishment, a total of 12 countries were involved, today their number has increased to 32.
The main purpose of the establishment of NATO
At the time when NATO was established, a cold war was going on between the Soviet Union and the allies of America. At that time, the clouds of war were hovering every hour, every minute that any country could attack at any time. In view of this cold war, America and its allies created this organization. The main objective of this organization was to protect from the Soviet Union and bring peace and stability in the world.
NATO's Article 5
NATO's Article 5 says that if any enemy country attacks any one of the member countries of its group, then that attack will be considered on all member countries. In such a situation, all member countries will automatically join the war. It was first used during the 9/11 attack on America. At that time, America was attacked by Al-Qaeda, then after some time America entered Ottawa, Pakistan and killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attack.
NATO's deployment in Afghanistan
Ever since NATO was established, NATO has done many commendable works to bring peace and stability all over the world. In which it was mainly deployed in Afghanistan as NATO-led security forces from 2001 to 2021. After that, NATO left Afghanistan in 2021 after the agreement was signed between the US and the Taliban under the mediation of Qatar.
NATO's role in Russia-Ukraine war:-
In 2014, when Russia attacked Ukraine and took Crimea, a part of Ukraine, NATO imposed strict sanctions on Russia. During the war between Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine was given military and economic help. NATO did not actively participate in this war but continued to support Ukraine from outside. Despite NATO's help, Russia occupied many areas of Ukraine.
Relations between India and NATO
India and NATO have good relations but India is not a member of NATO. India's foreign policy is the policy of non-alignment. India has relations with all countries. It is making many plans with many countries like Russia, America and Japan and is also doing military exercises with them. On one hand India is maintaining good relations with Russia and on the other hand it is also taking forward its relations with America and its allies.
